LOW-FAT DIET HELPS AVERT SECOND SKIN CANCER
Patients with a history of skin cancer may want to change their diets in an effort to avoid a second bout with the disease. This recommendation is based on research that shows that high fat intake is linked with the development of squamous cell carcinoma among those with a history of skin cancer. In fact, a recent study shows that, among patients with a previous history of skin cancer, higher total fat intake was linked with an approximately two-fold increase in the risk of squamous cell cancer of the skin. Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are two forms of non-melanoma cancer that account for the large majority of cancers. They can be very effectively treated with early diagnosis.
A proper diet, with limited consumption of foods with fat, can help prevent illness and promote healing should illness strike. Research suggests that a diet high in fats may be linked to certain skin cancers. Early detection of any type of cancer is critical.
