ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS
Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) are naturally occurring compounds derived from fruit and milk sugars. When used as ingredients in over-the-counter skin care products, alpha hydroxy acids cause the skin to lose its outer layer to reveal a fresher-looking layer of skin underneath. This chemical exfoliation has the potential to reduce fine wrinkles and skin discolorations resulting from long-term exposure to the sun’s damaging rays. Typically, alpha hydroxy acid products sold to consumers have an AHA concentration of 10 percent or less; those used by doctors can range from 50 to 70 percent. The higher concentration solutions are most effective for performing chemical peels that help remove the undesirable signs of skin aging.
Repeated professional treatments with alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) and home applications can have a range of anti-aging results, including diminishing the appearance of wrinkles and age spots. Treat yourself to a gift. If you are uncomfortable with the appearance of your skin, please call ELMHURST DERMATOLOGY at 630-832-2111 to schedule an evaluation. We offer cosmetic fillers, such as Botox and Restylane injections, as well as chemical peels and topical regimens that can minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Our practice is located at 103 N. Haven, Suite 7, Elmhurst. We accept most medical insurance, Visa, and MasterCard. Happy New Year!
P.S. After it has been treated with products containing alpha hydroxy acids, skin should be protected with a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. |
