IS ROSACEA LINKED WITH SUNBURN?

The chronic, face-reddening condition known as rosacea has no known cause, which leads researchers to look for clues that could help identify and treat afflicted individuals. Rosacea affects 14 million Americans who are confronted by a condition that is known to get progressively worse over time. A recent study may help identify those prone to getting rosacea. According to researchers who studied people with moderate to severe cases of the skin disorder, 34% reported having a relative who also has the condition. Moreover, it was found that 44% of the people in the study reported having had blistering sunburns at some point in their lives. These findings provide added reason for people with family histories of rosacea to diligently use sunscreen.

Rosacea is a disease affecting the skin of the face – mostly where people blush. Symptoms include redness, pimples, red lines, and nasal bumps. Rosacea can’t be cured, but it can be controlled. Please call ELMHURST DERMATOLOGY at 630-832-2111 to arrange a skin evaluation. We provide medical treatment of a wide range of skin conditions and diseases, including rosacea. Our practice is located at 103 N. Haven, Suite 7, Elmhurst. We accept most medical insurance, Visa, and MasterCard.

P.S. While there may not be a cure for rosacea, treatments can control and reduce the symptoms.
