PEELING OPTIONS FOR FACIAL ACNE
There are two chemical peels that produce similar results for patients with facial acne. According to a small clinical study, however, one treatment led to longer lasting improvement with fewer side effects than the other. Both salicylic acid and glycolic acid produced similar improvement in the facial skin of patients with acne after two treatments. Yet, two months later, there was found to be more sustained improvement with the salicylic acid peel. Patients also reported more adverse effects after their first glycolic acid peels. The most common of these were redness, peeling, and scaling, which is understandable in that the peels are designed to remove superficial skin. In any case, both treatments are effective adjuncts in treating acne vulgaris.
We see acne blemishes on the skin. However, the trouble starts in the hair follicles and oil-producing glands beneath the surface of the skin. P.S. Acne vulgaris, which affects about 85 percent of teenagers, occurs as a result of oil and dead skin cells clogging up pores.
