MINIMIZING FOREHEAD SCARS WITH BOTOX
It is already widely known that injections of Botox (botulinum toxin A) can effectively reduce facial wrinkles by weakening the muscles responsible for facial expressions that cause wrinkles. Now, as dermatologists are putting Botox to more uses, it has been found that this muscle-relaxing agent also appears to help forehead wounds heal with reduced scarring. This finding may prove beneficial for people ranging from children with playground injuries to vehicle-accident victims. According to research, wounds treated with the muscle-paralyzing toxin were rated nearly two points better in appearance on a 10-point scale by facial surgeons when compared with placebo-treated wounds. The improved result is likely due to decreased muscle movement around the affected wound, which helps to lessen scarring.
Botox is a nonsurgical procedure that temporarily improves the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. Research indicates that Botox can also help minimize the appearance of facial scars. At ELMHURST DERMATOLOGY, we offer specialized cosmetic services, including Botox, soft tissue fillers, laser resurfacing for wrinkles, and chemical peels. Please call us at 630-832-2111 to arrange an evaluation. We specialize in evaluating and treating skin, hair, and nail diseases. Our practice is located at 103 N. Haven, Suite 7, Elmhurst.
P.S. The results of the study mentioned above were assessed six months after the forehead wounds were treated. |
