LEAVING NO CELL UNTURNED
Mohs surgery is a precise surgical technique for removing skin cancers that have recurred after other
forms of therapy, or for removing first-time cancers
that have a high likelihood of recurring. It involves excising the tumor and immediately examining
the frozen tissue microscopically to see if all of its
borders are free of cancer cells. If any tumor cells
are found in any of the specimen’s margins, more
tissue is immediately excised from the appropriate
area. The procedure is repeated until there is no more
evidence of cancer cells left at the excision site. Thus,
Mohs surgery assures the most thorough removal of
malignant tissue, which is very helpful in cases of
skin cancers of poor definition.
Although there are about 1 million cases of skin
cancer diagnosed each year, most of these cancers are
easily treated and cured. At ELMHURST DERMATOLOGY,
our goal is to consistently provide expert
care for our patients. We consider it a privilege to
care for you and your family. We diagnose and treat
skin cancer as well as eczema, atopic dermatitis,
warts, and rashes. Call us at 630-832-2111 to schedule
a consultation. We are located at 242 N. York
Road, Suite 101, Elmhurst. Most medical insurance,
Visa, and MasterCard welcome.
P.S. Mohs surgery is also well suited to cosmetically
sensitive areas, such as the eyelids and nose, where
tissue sparing is most critical. |
