LUMPS JUST BENEATH THE SKIN

Lipomas are common benign tumors composed of mature fat cells that grow under the skin and typically appear as round or oval lumps. These growths are generally harmless, and research has yet to determine whether or not they ever undergo malignant changes. While they may occur anywhere on the body, they often show up on the neck, trunk, abdomen, forearms, buttocks, and thighs. Treatment is usually not required unless there is a notable change in the lump. In such cases, a biopsy may be recommended. Generally, removal of a lipoma is only recommended if it causes pain, pressure, or irritation, or if it is growing. A lipoma may also be removed for cosmetic reasons.

We diagnose and treat skin cancer, check and remove moles, and prescribe pharmaceuticals for treatment of rashes and other skin conditions. We take care of our patients like they were members of our own family. Our practice is located at 242 N. York Road, Suite 101, Elmhurst.

P.S. Surgical excision is the most common method of removing lipomas.
