DARKENING AREAS, DURING PREGNANCY
During pregnancy, many women’s moles darken. This is largely due to an increase in progesterone, which is a steroid hormone secreted by the placenta and ovaries. Along with the melanocyte-stimulating hormone that regulates skin pigmentation, this causes dark areas of the body to become more pronounced in most pregnant women. In addition to the moles, birthmarks, and beauty marks may also darken during pregnancy. A dark line called the “linea nigra,” which means “black line,” may also run from. above the navel to the pubic area. These darkened areas usually fade soon after childbirth.
And remember, once your baby is born, take every precaution to shield his or her delicate skin from the sun’s damaging rays.Pregnancy causes physical and hormonal changes. If you’re a mom-to-be, you may notice changing skin pigmentation that will fade after pregnancy.
