DOES ALOE PROMOTE SKIN HEALING?
The aloe plant is a succulent possessing
long, spiky leaves that contain a clear, thick, gel-like substance that has proven itself able to promote healing
of damaged skin. In fact, aloe gel contains a number of nutrients that, in test-tube studies, kill infectious bacteria
and fungi, as well as block chemicals
that contribute to inflammation, itching, and pain. For these reasons, aloe gel is often used to soothe sunburned
skin. Some studies suggest that aloe gel applied to the skin may also help speed the healing of minor burns, abrasions, psoriasis, sores, and even frostbite. With all this in mind, you may want to keep a low maintenance
aloe plant around the house.Aloe is used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical
products for its soothing and healing properties. There are some over-the-counter products that can help you with skin problems.
However, some skin conditions
require professional treatment to promote healing. At ELMHURST DERMATOLOGY, we customize medications and treatment plans to meet each patient’s needs. We consider it a privilege to care for you and your family. Please call us at 630-832-2111 for high-quality, personalized care from a Board Certified Dermatologist. We are located at 242 N. P.S. Simply break off a leaf from a potted aloe plant and squeeze the get from the broken edge onto your skin. |
