SKIN DEEP
Although few people think of it as such, the skin is actually the largest organ of the human body. Unlike the vast majority of the body’s organs, it is constantly exposed to the outside world. It forms a protective barrier that is essential in preserving overall health. The skin absorbs certain nutrients and expels bodily by-products. It is quite vulnerable to the sun’s harmful rays, irritants and a host of fungi and bacteria. While there is a multitude of problems the skin can endure, most of us simply want to look good. In the weeks to come, we will discuss unhealthy conditions, treatments and preventive measures that can be applied to the skin, above and beneath the surface.
ELMHURST DERMATOLOGY is pleased to welcome you to our bi-weekly column. In the weeks ahead we will share recommendations on how to protect your body’s most delicate
surface – your skin. Our focus is on providing high-quality diagnosis and treatment for conditions of the skin, hair, and nails. Cosmetic services, including chemical peels and Botox®, are also available. If you notice any unusual spots, moles, or rashes on your skin, please call us at 630-832-2111 to schedule an evaluation. We are located at 242 N. York Road, Suite 101, Elmhurst.
P.S. Dermatologists also provide medical care and treatment of the hair and nails in addition to the skin. |
